sunday walk

Winter in the mountains has its own unique charm. The snow crunches underfoot, the air is crisp, and the landscape looks like something out of a fairy tale. That Sunday, I decided to join Mrs. Ewa—my neighbor, a retired Polish language teacher who has lived here since the 1970s. Now, she is here permanently. No matter the weather, she goes on her walks with dedication and passion, discovering the beauty of the mountains again and again.

We walked along snow-covered trails as Mrs. Ewa told me stories about the history of this place—about Michałkowa and the Owl Mountains. I listened, fascinated, because she spoke not just with knowledge but with deep feeling, as if each story were a part of her. She is an exceptionally sensitive person, attuned to the beauty around her—it shows in her words, in the way she looks at nature.

Mrs. Ewa is known for having the most beautiful garden in the area—she has an incredible sense of aesthetics and extensive knowledge about plants. In the summer, her garden looks like a work of art. And then there are her famous crepes with homemade raspberry jam—an unforgettable treat.

I’m incredibly lucky to have such neighbors—people who give this place a special character, who share their passion and wisdom. Walking through the winter silence that day, I felt grateful—for this landscape, for the history, and for the fact that I can now call this place home.
